Brett Holmes – Artist Statement
My work explores the relationship between reality and abstract visual suggestion.
I employed a phase of style development where I discovered a lot about how I can achieve a vapor-like migration of water showing movement within my watercolours. The techniques I now utilize in my work are based on that system, helping me capture visual suggestion in an abstract body of work. Painting on sealed and treated wood panel I find, helps provide a solid base to take more water with my abstract work. I then seal in and encase the body of work with a reflective crystal-clear mucilage to preserve its beauty.
Ever since I was young I have simply enjoyed the beauty of art, specifically pieces that are engaging.
Engaging art to me does not have to purely represent realism. It is also aesthetically pleasing in an abstract form this is what I seek to show the viewer in my professional work. I seek to create art that people admire and see something that makes them happy when they look at it.
